Labor Day Weekend Lu’au!
Step back in time to 1950’s Hawaii for Labor Day Weekend!
Dance the night away under the stars to an exotica inspired, 9-piece Afro-Cuban orchestra--amidst a Tahitian oasis of bamboo huts, palm trees, giant smoke filled tikis, a waterfall and hula dancers. Take a dip and lounge by the pool, made into the Voodoo Lagoon (but watch out for the mermaids!) while watching evocative performances by Hawaiian fire dancers, Elvis, Carmen Miranda and Polynesian Fiafia! Listen to live 40's & 50's Hawaiian swing music, 50's surf music (think Pulp Fiction), or a jungle riverboat performance. Enjoy an authentic Polynesian show while sipping a flaming scorpion bowl and tasting a real Polynesian BBQ.
Don't forget to enter the hot, hot limbo contest, take part in the group hula lesson, watch the live 8ft tall tiki carving, or check out the vintage cars in the parking lot!
"After a few of Summer's last glorious hours by the pool, come enjoy a night of good friends, good music and good dancing!
After WWII many soldiers returned home with souvenirs from the South Pacific and this spurred a national explosion for all things Tiki and Polynesian! The movie "South Pacific" and the CBS-TV series Gilligan's Island were direct results of this, as were the chart topping Exotica hits of Martin Denny and Les Baxter. "Exotica blended the Tiki idea through jazz augmented with Polynesian, Asian, and Latin instruments and "tropical" themes. This music combined the elements of Afro-Cuban rhythms, unusual instrumentations, environmental sounds, and lush romantic themes from Hollywood movies" with songs like Les Baxter's "Voodoo Dreams." Exotica became a massively popular trend in the '50s and "in 1957, Martin Denny's "Quiet Village" reached #2 on Billboard's charts and in 1959, his entire Exotica album reached #1." --Wikipedia
